Hip-Hop has seen it's great state and accomplishment since the late 90's. The BET Hip-Hop Awards 2013 has shown that all of us from every coast can come together and make a big statement. What statement you say? That we are here to stay!
Snoop Dogg aka 'Snoop Lion' aka 'Uncle Snoop' did an incredible job hosting and holding down his seniority on stage. Doing skit after skit that went from him playing cards with the Dogg Pound to making fun at the movie "The Butler" by making a spin off called "The Other Butler".
He opened up and introduced many of tonight's acts almost seeming like he was passing his senior torch to the new and upcoming hip-hop artist in the game now. He also was allowed to bring out some older classic hip-hop artist like "Bone Thugs N Harmony, Mannie Fresh & Juvenile as a tribute to the ones before us.
But some of the biggest tributes, at The BET Hip-Hop Awards 2013, was MC Lyte being the recipient of the "I Am Hip-Hop" Award presented by Sprite for her leading contribution to hip-hop. MC Lyte was the first female lyrist to ever release solo album (1988's Lyte As Rock). She has joined a grand line of previous "I Am Hip-Hop" Award winners that includes Salt N Pepa, LL Cool J & Grandmaster Flash to name a few.
Another tribute and 'pass-the-torch' moment included Lil Kim joining what is considered the best part of the award show, "The Cypher". Within The Cypher, we also witness some incredible bars from upcoming artist like Schoolyboy Q, Wax, Rittz & Rapsody, on the scene artist like Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, & Travi$ Scott, veteran artist like the group SlaughterHouse, and even reality tv stars like Kevin Hart (aka Chocolate Dropper) and the cast of The Real Husbands of Hollywood.
Even better, was the performance made by Future, Meek Mill, Rick Ross, Yo Gotti, Rocko Da Don, 2Chainz & newcomer Rich Homie Quan just to name a small percent. If you didn't get to see The BET Hip-Hop Awards, then you missed all of the excitement that Hip-Hop is supposed to display.
So tell Mic Hustlin. What was your favorite part of this years BET Hip-Hop Awards?
