Hip-Hop has made a major influence on my life and I hope that it will continue to be an even greater influence on our youth, but it must get better and grow in a more favorable light. It seem over the years that hip-hop has been downgraded to just an utterance and a pop status; it's not a lifestyle like KRS-One once declared it to be, but more like something to try out.
You have to understand, Hip-Hop is a way of life. Born from independent artist, dj's, & producers, it was birth from the gutters of the urban slums and brought to the attention of the ones who needed it most. These independent and artistic individuals knew nothing about business or what it took to do records professionally, they just did what they felt in their hearts, bodies, minds & soul to teach their people the core principles of Hip-Hop: Peace, Love, Unity & Fun. These four elements would eventually catch the hearts of many from different races and nationality and start one of the biggest, if not the biggest, movement in history. 2014 will celebrate 40 years when others only thought it would last for three years.
Hip-Hop is a lifestyle which includes the way that you walk, talk, dress & act. It has created many different genres of music from Southern Rap (Snap, Trap & Chopped and Screwed) to Grime, Trip-Hop, Reggaeton and Low-Bap all of the latter which can be found throughout the world. It can not just be condensed to music. Also included in this lifestyle is turntablism or DJing, Break-Dancing & Graffiti Art which is all celebrated at Mic Hustlin.
So, at Mic Hustlin, we strive to get back to the essence of Hip-Hop and what it is. We strive on promoting independence which is the very thing that started this lifestyle that we live. We strive to get back to that one-on-one, in-your-face type music that will move your soul. As long as Hip-Hop/Rap is around to stay, Mic Hustlin will keep a place in Hip-Hop
