Before the arrival of ‘Outer Peace,’ Toro y Moi sat down and illustrated his new album while telling stories of its creative process. While some artists tend to be frustrated when they’re considered as a member of a certain genre group, Toro is not. If anything, he’s appreciative. “I definitely see all of the different tangents of chillwave now,” he said in mid-December while at the Complex office in New York City. “I'm very thankful to be looped into chillwave. I see how, too—but I don't relate to the genre too much.
