Even though Kendrick Lamar maybe the flagship of Top Dawg Entertainment, labelmate Ab-Soul doesn't want you to get it misunderstood about the position that he plays as well. In a recent interview with Montreality, 'Soul Brother #2' talks about his threat to leave the group Black Hippy and what maybe holding up the release of the collectives album.
In the interview, Ab-Soul states that the Black Hippy album will come 'when the check is right' and has this to say about his tweet he sent threating to leave Black Hippy:
I don’t want people to think Kendrick is Lil’ Wayne or 50 Cent. It’s not G-Unit. My boss is not Kendrick. Kendrick didn’t sign me. Kendrick didnt add me to his group. This was a collective long before there was Black Hippy.
He also states that is album is a "diverse body of work" and will be coming soon, not leaving much detail about the upcoming project. He also reacts on Kendrick being featured on Eminem new track "Love Game" on The Marshall Mathers LP 2 by simply saying:
Eminem would be foolish not to have him on his album
